Early Art Exploration
We begin each class with a story, an observation of artwork, or an introduction to the day’s topic. Our goal is to nurture your child’s ability to observe, think, feel, and express themselves through joyful art making. Throughout the session, your child will explore a wide range of materials — from pastels, watercolor, tempera, and acrylic paint to mixed media, clay, and fiber arts...etc.

Foundations & Expression
This class introduces your child to basic art concepts such as primary colors, warm and cool tones, complementary colors, and how to use various materials. We explore blending, color mixing, ink wash tones control, charcoal shading, and more. Your child will build both aesthetic awareness and hands-on skills while working on themed projects that preserve their unique style and creative thinking.

What Makes
Our Classes Special
Every class begins with a guided discussion to spark curiosity and deepen understanding. This might look like story time, observing a piece of artwork or object, or learning fun facts about our subject for the day.
We encourage your child to see, think, and wonder. Express their ideas in their own way. As your child grow more familiar with art terms, materials, and color relationships, their creativity and compositions naturally become more thoughtful and expressive. Instead of aiming for identical results, we celebrate your child’s individuality, storytelling, and unique artistic voice.
Art Materials We Use
Your child will explore a wide range of materials including:

Watercolor (opaque and transparent)

Traditional Chinese ink (aka Sumi ink) with Calligraphy brush and Xuan Paper

Acrylic paint and tempera paint (liquid, cake, and paint sticks)

Oil pastels and soft pastels

Crayons and colored pencils (wax-based and water-soluble)

Acrylic markers, chalk markers, permanent markers

Charcoal
While painting is our main focus, we also sprinkle in mixed media, printing, clay, fiber art, 3D sculpture occasionally to keep things fresh and exciting for your young artist. Your child will also have fun learning ink wash painting technique. A special part of my Taiwanese cultural heritage.

I'm Kyla!
Mama before anything else, proud co-owner of Lili's Creations Face Painting with my 11-year-old daughter, and the creative soul behind Arty Critters.
You may have seen our mother daughter duo at many local birthday parties, school events, or community festivals around Bonney Lake and nearby towns. Painting sparkly unicorns, superheroes, and lots of happy faces! What started as a fun weekend activity with my daughter turned into something much more meaningful — a way for me to reconnect with my background in art and share creativity with families in our community.
Now through Arty Critters, I get to bring that same joy into our cozy, home studio space where kids can explore, create, and express themselves through art. Whether it’s their first time picking up a paintbrush or they’re always dreaming up new ideas, I’m here to cheer them on and help their imagination thrive.
